To help youth explore biomechanical engineering concepts, teachers designed a lesson based on the Put a Lid on It: Engineering Safety Helmets EiE unit. For the final project, youth created, collaborated, and problem-solved in groups while designing and improving a safety helmet using the steps of the Engineering Design Process.
Youth used iPads to document the Engineering Design Process. They used the apps Movenote and VoiceThread to document the process and their experiences. Additionally, students used the app 3D Brain and Safari to learn about the different parts of the brain and what those parts of the brain control (i.e. speech, thought and emotion, memory, hearing, sight, language, etc.).
